Once, long ago, there was a young sparrow who knew not how to fly. It’s parents flew out to get food and left it safely in the nest. The sparrow’s stomach growled just as much as the lion below the tree did. The sparrow got up and peered over the nest, seeing the great, big, ferocious lion.
“Come down, little bird. Come play a game, it won’t hurt. If your God is real, then you’ll be safe. It said so in His Word. That’s what He says!” The little bird hopped reluctantly down the tree. “Care to play?” said the lion, with a smirk. “We can play a nice, calm game of hide and seek.”
The scared little bird was shivering with fear. Suddenly, the sparrow took a deep breath and collected the courage given from God. Smiling, the sparrow spoke, “I am not the deceived one. He is real, but He says to stay out of trouble. He tells of His enemy prowling the ground, waiting to devour. That enemy is you.” The little bird continued, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son so that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Who would’ve thought that such a small, helpless being could be used in such a marvelous, glorifying way!
The lion, shocked, stopped dead in his tracks. Nobody ever stood up to him before! The outraged lion almost pounced on the little bird until, suddenly, the little bird flew away.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
